Trailer for Jo Koy’s first feature film ‘Easter Sunday’ released

Common Shots and Dreamworks Movies produced the formal trailer for “Easter Sunday,” starring Filipino American stand-up comic Jo Koy.

The movie, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and composed by Ken Cheng, follows a fictionalized edition of Koy as he returns home with his son to his “riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family” for an Easter celebration in the Bay Spot, according to an official synopsis of the movie.

“Easter Sunday is like the Filipino Super Bowl,” Koy’s character says in the trailer.

“Easter Sunday,” impressed by the comedian’s individual existence encounters, is a really like letter to the Filipino American local community.

“Coming up as a kid, we failed to have just about anything like this to get inspired by. When I was watching films, you had to hold out for the credits to obtain out if anyone was Filipino,” Koy mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “When I saw Dante Basco in ‘Hook,’ heading through the credits, I’m like, ‘Oh, he is certainly Filipino.’ But that was our way of currently being inspired indirectly when I was a kid. And now I have that possibility to present this inspiration and this opening.”

The film also stars Jimmy O. Yang, Tia Carrere, Brandon Wardell, Eva Noblezada, Lydia Gaston, Asif Ali, Rodney To, Eugene Cordero, Jay Chandrasekhar, Tiffany Haddish and Lou Diamond Phillips.

“Easter Sunday” is established to premiere in theaters on Aug. 5.
