You can see the Bethesda High-quality Arts Pageant 2022 artists listed here.

You know what is actually coming future – my awards for best artists in the demonstrate.  As a fantastic juror, I can use my experienced eye from the thumbnails and web-site visits to award the Campello awards.

For the painters I liked  Zhiyi Li (from Enfield, CT) in Booth #66, and Thomas Williams (from Chicago, IL) in Booth #78.

All 3 printmakers in the show are excellent — I have created a large amount about Joseph Craig English from Washington Grove, MD (Booth #84) – in this show John Pernell and Michael Nemnich are also very superior.

For Mixed Media, my top rated choose was Sandra Sedmak Engel, whose sensual work is a pleasure both to the eye and the eros that outdoor displays ordinarily check out to get rid of.

There are a lot of gifted photographers in the show. See them all listed here. James Richmond from Titusville, Florida (Booth #76) went to Cuba and has the necessary photos of old 1950s cars and trucks in Havana, as I have an understanding of that the Cuban dictatorship will not allow holidaymakers (and photographers specially) to depart from the jailed island unless of course proof is offered at the airport that photos of the vintage vehicles have been taken.

Pet peeve apart, Richmond has an remarkable eye for capturing the grace that is human type, all the way from Portuguese card players in Previous Europe to attractive indigenous women in Panama, to Cuban farmers in the brutalized Castro Brothers’ Personnel Paradise.

It is a fantastic photograph, capturing the essence of the Cuban guajiro, his historical Basque bloodlines still fairly cleansing working by means of his veins as evidenced by the telltale ear lobe, a wide smile for the American vacationer on his slender lips, and a hand-rolled Habano in his mouth, the envy of every smoker millionaire all-around the earth.

In the group of sculpture, Tanya Tyree caught my awareness as her sculptures wrestle amongst talented efficiency and a bit of whimsy. What is clear is a straight and one of a kind eyesight becoming sent by the (I suspect) quite powerful and experienced fingers of this artist.

And the Campello decide for Very best in Present?

It goes to painter Cassie Taggart from Rehoboth, DE in Booth #51.

Although any person can promptly see that Taggart’s operate check out surrealism, what she has brilliantly performed is to supply a new 21st century version of surrealism, where her proficient painting abilities marry it with fantasy, and the fantastical (which is diverse) as nicely as a healthier dose of narrative storytelling.

It is “otherworldly” artwork deeply anchored in info which lives hidden in our ancestral mind.  This is do the job which as soon as you invest in it and dangle it in your property, will dominate anything else which you have hung on these partitions.

Go outside the house and see some artwork this weekend, talks to artists and artisans, eat some undesirable-for-you meals and hear to some out of doors new music.
