College of Art and Design sponsoring Rochester Independent Comics Expo this weekend

An event showcasing additional than 30 impartial comedian artists from across the Northeast and surveying Rochester’s unbiased movie sport scene will spotlight the 3rd annual Rochester Independent Comics Expo (RICE) this weekend.
The expo, arranged by Western New York Comic Arts and sponsored by RIT’s Higher education of Art and Design, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in Sibley Square, 250 E. Main St., Rochester, N.Y. A kickoff function, the “Rochester Comics Artist Showcase and Dialogue,” will just take spot from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 1, at The Robust, Just one Manhattan Sq. downtown.
Expo and kickoff occasion attendees will be in a position to meet exhibiting comedian artists, purchase some of their initial artwork, and explore Rochester’s comics culture. The situations are no cost and open up to the community.
This year’s expo is co-structured by Frances Andreu, electronic initiatives librarian at RIT artist and educator Tom Lake and Daniel Worden, comics historian and an associate professor in RIT’s Faculty of Art, and supported by volunteers from a quantity of cultural and educational institutions about Rochester.
The April 1 kickoff occasion at The Solid will attribute a panel of renowned comic artists presenting their do the job and partaking in a dialogue about today’s comics scene in Rochester. Visitors will contain RIT college and alumni, which include cartoonist, musician, educator, and author David Chisholm, an adjunct professor in RIT’s College or university of Art and Layout, whose new operate, Enter the Blue, was lately reviewed by The New York Times.

Expo attendees on Saturday will be a brief walk from City Artwork Place, RIT’s downtown venue for artwork, design, and creativity positioned within the Sibley Creating. An exhibition of thesis function by MFA candidates in RIT’s Schools of Art and American Crafts will be on screen this weekend.
